More Mathias Moments

Still ever-so mesmerized by our son's recent ability to crawl; I record him crawling even further.

I then lie next to him and watch him giggle as he plays with my hair. He was kind enough not to pull it this time. :)

Finally, for a brief moment, I let Mathias play with the camera before we head upstairs to the nursery.

Like My New Ride?

I (Lisa) came home from work and saw little man just chillin' in my driveway with the sun beaming softly down on him . He looked like a little angel...with a baseball cap on! Haha! Mathias was very proud of his new buggy and I made sure to take plenty of pictures in between his riding breaks. He loved it!

Messy Face

Gerber makes these little finger foods for babies that are perfect for snacking on in between meals.

http://www.gerber.com/prodcat?catid=524

We happen to like Graduates Biter Biscuits for Mathias. He nibbles on these (with his gums of course) like they're the best things he's ever had. The only problem you'll find with these cookies is the soggy mess your child will create when devouring them. Hehe~

Grandma's "Wagon"

If you've ever seen the movie Radio Flyer, you know that the two brothers owned a cool red wagon. With the weather getting nicer, my mom decided that a red wagon would be perfect for her grandson. She went on and on about this adorable little wagon that she saw at a department store one day and was determined to get it for Mathias. I was even getting excited about it and would tell my friends at work about the walks I would take my son on in this wagon. Everyone envisioned Mathias sitting in this beautiful cherry red Radio Flyer on a bright sunny day. Even my sister thought it was a cute idea and wished we had had one when we were little. Well, this went on for a few weeks before my Mom finally decided to purchase it.

Feast your eyes on the "wagon":

Does that look anything like a red wagon??? I about died from laughter when I came home from work and saw that.

I looked right at my mother and said, "Mom, I thought you said you bought a red wagon?"

She replied, "I did! It's right there!" She smiles as she points at the toy car.

"Mom," I reply back, "that's not a wagon, that's a toy buggy."

"Huh? It's a wagon....OK, maybe not, whatever, same thing...it's cute!" Mom says.

I didn't argue with her. It was cute and all that mattered was Mathias liking it...which he absolutely does. As the weather turns warmer in the next couple of days, I plan on taking him for a spin around the neighborhood. A spin in his new wagon. :)

Future MVP

Little (big) man had his 9 month check-up yesterday and his pedi weighed him at 20 lbs even...which is about average for his age. Then the doctor measured the length of his body...the little stinker is 31 inches long. I knew he would be tall for his age, but what surprised me was how long he really is. According to one baby growth chart, Mathias sits in the 94th percentile for his age and height. See for yourself...

What does the percentile mean? There is a wide band of normal growth shown on this chart for both boys and girls. This chart is divided into percentiles starting at 5% to 95% of the population. This means our son's height plots at 94% which makes him taller than 94% of the infants in the US and shorter than the remaining 6% of infants. So I have decided...

This mama's going to retire off her kid's income. Yippie!

Let's Pretend We're Asleep

I've captured Mathias acting like he was sleeping everytime I would look his way. He was such a little stinker! He thought if his eyes were closed; I couldn't see him. HA! Watch him squint!

Mathias Crawls!

OH-MY-GOSH! My little man has learned to crawl (forward) for the first time today. My mom is staying over today and she was just watching us play together when all of a sudden he started to crawl towards me. It was awesome! We both just looked at each other and shrieked in excitement. Haha! It was so amazing to see him actually move his little knees...one in front of the other (he usually just drags his legs and pivots his entire body with his elbows). So you all know what I had to do being a first-time mommy - I ran upstairs to grab the camera again. Unfortunately, Mathias was getting lazy and used up all his good crawls when I didn't have the camera. So the video I took only shows him barely inching towards me. My mom and I tried so hard to get him to wiggle his little body towards anything that would distract him. No such luck! I suppose time will only tell when he will do it again, so I won't push the little guy. Patience is virtue, right? :)

Basketball??

Friday night I'm home from work early and begin immediately playing with Mathias. We start off with his vast array of colorful toys. He soon got bored with a good ten or so of his gadgets and at that point it was time to feed him dinner. Afterwards, we begin watching a cartoon together with him sitting on my lap and holding up his own bottle. Once the cartoon began to bore him and the bottle was close to empty, I propped him back down on the floor where he continued to play with another toy. This was the perfect opportunity for me to lean back, kick up my feet and change the channel. My simple way of unwinding after a long work week. HA! Who was I fooling? I barely got to change the channel when Mathias looks at me holding the remote and then darts his head to the t.v. I swear he flipped his whole body around and sat facing the screen...waiting for me to go to something good.

At that point, I was sick of watching cartoons and not in the mood for the weather channel or wheel of fortune (thanks to Grandma) so I turned on something I knew we both could handle...basketball. The little booger started to dart his eyes back and forth at the players on the screen and quickly became excited. He recognized the sport immediately. We can thank his Grandpa for that. It was too funny. So I grabbed the camera to share his excitement.

Disclaimer: Lisa does not in any way recommend that parents encourage grunting, spitting and mild hysteria with their babies. Children should watch cartoons and educational programs that pertain to their age. However, if grandparents are involved in the child's life at an early age...than the parents are screwed. At that point, muttering small words of encouragement is OK.

His First Dance Moves!

This is funny stuff! Our little man is truly rockin' out to some nursery tunes. He just started doing this recently so of course I (Lisa) had to get him in action. Anytime he hears music or a steady beat - he tries to bend his chest and wiggle his butt. It's so cute! What's especially funny is my mom in the background trying to egg him on. You can totally hear her voice narrating the music. "Yeah, yeah, yeah!" Classic stuff! Enjoy!

Long Day of Play

My Lab Apollo, my cat Dinah and my sweet son all looked pretty pooped from playing all morning while Mommy cleaned the house. Must be nice to just roll around and be lazy! HA! Here are a few pics from late Sunday afternoon...too cute...

Thanks, Dad

I (Lisa) recently got an email from my father who is currently working overseas. Anyway, I've been going on and on about how great my son is and how wonderful Jason has been that I never really reflect on myself. I just wanted to say thank you, Dad, for bringing the best out of me...your words from thousands of miles away mean more to me than any promotion, paycheck or gift I could ever receive. It really made my evening and I swear I got teary-eyed towards the end. I wanted to share part of his email below:

"Hey Lisa, glad to see the little guy is doing well with such loving parents overseeing his daily activities! You surely have a knack for motherhood as demonstrated by your love towards a handful of wonderment. I am especially proud of your adaptations and flexibility having to cope with work, a mobile hubby, Mathias the incredible, and Mom, while still looking like you just came out of a modeling office. All in a day’s work so kudos on your juggling feats! I really am proud of you although I miss Rudolph as that reindeer was a shining example of your taking charge!"

Now for those of you that didn't quite understand the last sentence, allow me to explain. When I was in the first grade, I perfomed in my very first Christmas play at school. Starring Lisa as Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer. HA! My folks still have pictures of me wearing a big red nose standing next to the other reindeers and demanding more stew from Mrs. Clause. It's hilarious because I vividly remember my lines from those images. So basically, for my Dad to remember this trivial part in my life...well, it's touching. I guess it's true what they say. Parents remember everything...even when I was dressed so silly and only six years old - to my parents, it was a big accomplishment. Now that I have my very own child, I totally understand what they must have felt like at that very moment so many years ago. It's truly the best feeling ever...

I'm a Baby, Not a Plumber!

Mr. Happy-Face!

Yay! That's more like it. He's smiling because he just got back from his walk today. Colorado Springs just hit its record high of 71 degrees this afternoon! It was gorgeous and really makes me anxious for summer to come. Mathias loved it outside and you can see some color on his face. Happy baby!

Below is a new clip of him playing in his favorite place...the sink! Except now he's too big to fit in the bathroom sinks so we've upgraded to the kitchen. :) Oh, and it's clear that "dada" is the preferred sound Mathias likes to make. Lucky Jay! I egg him on because I know he'll mimick me...but I sure would love to hear the little guy say "mama" someday. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm hoping it'll be soon!

Mr. Pouty-Face

Somebody looks so serious! He wouldn't smile for me once...so I said fine...we'll take a picture of you with your oh-so-serious face.
