For as long as I can remember we've always had a fake Christmas tree every year. The exact same one as a matter of fact. It's convenient, inexpensive and less of a mess if you decide to take this "artificial" route. However, this year I decided - since Mathias is older now and it's his second year celebrating the winter holiday - that he deserves would a real live pine tree.
The entire idea of picking out one special tree that stands out from the rest is actually kind of fun and Mathias loved every minute of it. The fresh Colorado air and scent of pine everywhere was exhilarating. What I'm really looking forward to is going downtown to Old Colorado City and shopping for Mathias' Christmas ornament. It's a quaint little shop that makes ornaments for you or sells vintage-style decorations. I love the rustic look and anything home-made. I hope this will become a tradition for Mathias to visit this shop and get a new ornament every year.
